Positive media exposure
To generate exposure for the hotel's opening in the third quarter of this year, the Sheraton Zhuhai Hotel invited 12 journalists from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong to an exclusive preview of the hotel.
Sheraton Zhuhai Hotel, the first international five-star hotel to open in the city, and the Shizimen central business district, where the hotel is located, are keen to promote Zhuhai as a destination for business and leisure travellers. The goal is to impress the media with the hotel's services and amenities, and generate awareness of a new destination in Zhuhai.
Challenges and measures
Delivering a special culinary experience for the media group before the hotel's opening was a major challenge. It would have been a waste of resources to open an entire 200-seat all-day restaurant to accommodate such a small group. Nevertheless, the hotel made arrangements for the group to dine in different venues at the hotel to have a varied experience.
The welcome meal was in form of a barbecue dinner held at an outdoor venue near the swimming pool. This showcased the outdoor venue, while allowing guests the opportunity to sample the local seafood.
Breakfast was served in the Lobby Lounge - a private pavilion on the second floor which will become a gathering place for beverages and bites, afternoon tea and social hours once the hotel has opened.
Dinner was served in the banquet kitchen to offer the group a behind-the-scenes experience of how things work. This arrangement gave the guests an insight into the culinary team's creativity. The hotel team also took the chance to showcase their meeting and banquet facilities and services.
The media group allowed the hotel staff a chance to serve and talk to their guests to ensure the highest service quality. The guests were invited to provide feedback after the trip so that the hotel could make improvements.
The hotel impressed everyone on the media trip with its state-of-the-art rooms, genuine hospitality and comfort, enjoyable culinary experience, and well designed itineraries. As a result, the media coverage was positive.
