HYATT ON THE BUND,
A DYNAMIC HOTEL IN SHANGHAI

Hyatt on the Bund, part of the Grand Hyatt portfolio, is located at the northern end of the legendary Bund. To maximise its prime location on the western banks of the Huangpu River, the cutting-edge hotel has been angled so that most of the rooms benefit from a spectacular view of either the historical architecture down The Bund or modern skyscraper-lined Pudong across the river.

The waterfront hotel was designed by Hok Int’l (Asia/Pacific) Ltd., the second-largest architectural firm in the world, and the architect of Grand Hyatt Jakarta, Fukuoka Int'l Airport and Dubai Festival City. Interior design is by the award-winning Remedios Siembieda Inc., creators of some of the world’s most luxurious hotels, including Grand Hyatt Tokyo and Park Hyatt Beijing. The mission for Hyatt on the Bund was to create an ‘innovative, invigorating and inspirational’ hotel, with a focus on vibrant, contemporary spaces that appeal to the modern business delegate, as well as the trend-conscious leisure traveller.

Hyatt on the Bund houses a total of 631 guest rooms, including 52 suites, split between the East and West towers. Ranging in size from 42 to 300 square metres (452 to 3,229 square feet), these contemporary spaces feature floor-to-ceiling windows that allow guests to best experience the breathtaking views, as well as rotating flat-screen TVs, DVD players, iPod docking station and high-speed wired and wireless broadband Internet access.

The highlight of the rooms is the innovative open bathroom concept, where you can create an open-plan studio if desired, or close the space off for a more conventional bedroom/bathroom space, if preferred. The spacious glass- and marble-clad open bathrooms feature standalone rain showers and eye-catching mother-of-pearl panels.

Spread over the top four floors of the West Tower is Hyatt on the Bund’s signature drinking and dining destination – Vue Restaurant, Chinese Private Dining and Bar. This multi-level, multi-concept space, designed by well-known Japanese interior design firm SuperPotato, has an air of a private residence and features high ceilings to better take in the surrounding views. On the second floor, Aroma introduces a “dining in the kitchen” concept, featuring live cooking stations rustling up everything from fresh pasta to Teppanyaki to desserts, while, off the lobby, a European-style Tea Room serves specialty blended teas from around the world, as well as pastries, cakes and hand-made chocolates. On the Lobby Level of the East Tower, Xindalu - China Kitchen focuses on authentic regional dishes, such as Peking Duck and the clay pot-baked Beggar’s Chicken, served in a fun setting.

A sprawling 1,859 square metres (20,064 square feet) of meeting space, with the capacity to cater to 1,210 people, is dedicated to meeting and function facilities. There are two ballrooms with outdoor terraces that have a capacity of 900 and 332 respectively (theatre style); a circular Glasshouse with an outdoor courtyard; and nine multi-purpose multi-sized meeting rooms equipped with wireless broadband Internet access, and the latest audio-visual and conferencing equipment. Guests staying on the Bund Club executive floors also have the exclusive use of three Bund Club boardrooms.

Once the meeting is over, guests can work off the stresses of the day in the 25 metre indoor swimming pool and fully equipped gym, or decompress in the luxurious super-spa. Yuan Spa features wood-lined treatment rooms, some with double-glass walls with water running between the panes, so that guests can both see and hear running water while indulging in water-based Oriental treatments.

“We’re incredibly excited to be opening in such a prestigious location,” says general manager Gottfried Bogensperger. “With the Grand Hyatt Shanghai in the heart of the Pudong financial district and Hyatt on the Bund near the key Puxi entertainment hub, we are proud to be the first top-tier hotel group to own both sides of the river.”
